    Description

    ESTONIA - 1 Kroon 1992 uncirculated replacement banknote with Star *  (*0221905)
The 1-kroon banknotes were printed in 1992 in the United States Banknote Company printing plant.
    Front
The front side of the 1-kroon banknote depicts
    KRISTJAN RAUD
(1865–1943) – a painter and drawer, as well as a cultural historian. He was one of the most active organisers of Estonian art at the beginning of the 20th century. Raud received the Grand Prix at the 1937 Paris World Exhibition for his illustrations in the Estonian national epic “Kalevipoeg”.
    Back
The back side of the 1-kroon banknote depicts a view of
    Toompea Castle
    and the
    Tall Hermann Tower
. Toompea Castle is one of the most beautiful historical and architectural buildings in Tallinn. The Danes started construction of the Order’s stronghold in the 13th century. The fortress was almost totally destroyed during the Great Northern War in the 18th century, but it was partly reconstructed thereafter to serve as the seat of the government’s administration – Toompea Castle. During the first years of the Republic of Estonia, the new building of the parliament (Riigikogu) was constructed on the site of the medieval convent building in the courtyard of Toompea Castle.
